Research shows that reading to children 15 minutes a day makes a huge impact on their educational development. Why not take a few minutes and help other children at Benchley-Weinberger? You can be a hero in a child’s eyes as they finally “get it” and begin a lifelong love of reading.
With a brief training video and as little as an hour or two per month of one-on-one interaction, you’ll help be responsible for the outstanding academic standards and test scores achieved at the school. The Everyone A Reader program helps in many ways: a struggling reader succeeds, a teacher makes progress with the curriculum, and the school maintains funding through high test scores.
Parents, grandparents, neighbors, aspiring teachers, and concerned citizens all may participate in this program.
Working mainly with beginning readers in first and second grades, volunteers will start reading with children in early October as teachers’ needs are identified. Please contact Debbie Zappelli, Jenny Thomas, or Teresa Heimaster.
